Books, Not Just For Reading

I read, but not too often.
I write, but not as much as I want.
But I decorate every chance I get. Not the kind of decorating where you run to Target or Pier1 or T.J. Maxx or other stores where you have to keep spending and spending and spending. I just love to rearrange the stuff I have over and over and over again trying to come up with just the right combination of stuff to make it look cozy and comfy without looking cluttered and tacky.
And today I am sharing how I decorate with books. I love how books feel and smell and I love dust jackets and colored covers. I’ve bought books at garage sales for twenty-five cents never intending to read them but knowing I could use them for something fun down the road.
These are my bookshelves that are color coordinated. They are located in the living room, you can see the crown molding behind the shelves way up on top. Don’t look at the titles. And if you do zoom in and look at the titles, don’t judge me.
These are my gardening books which are way way way up high in the dining room because I no longer have to garden. We live in a woods. We have creeping charlie and coyote poop. We have deer that eat everything and anything. We have possum playing possum and fox (red, not Megan). My gardening days are done, but my gardening books are too cool not to keep on display.
All The Harry Potters, All The Harry Potters

Because you had your turn
Now your gonna learn
What it is to live with me
All The Harry Potters, All The Harry Potters
All the Harry Potters, All The Harry Potters
Oh Oh Oh Oh
And my pet care region. Volumes of information to be read about dogs. Cats? Just ridiculous little quotes about cats is more than anyone would ever need to know.
My recent compilation of items?
Play this music to get your self ready, because this is how excited I get when I nail a decorating piece to perfection!
You all ready for this?
I present for your approval Wicked and Son of a Witch along with my autographed Buddy Ebson’s The Other Side Of Oz AND a tin can. Green bird only serves to add visual appeal and (as if we needed it) more whimsy.

Books as decor? Guess I never thought about that. I'm so busy buying them to read, re-read, and re-read, that I never got around to trying to color coordinate them or dress them up. The closest I've ever gotten is separating them by general type and major author – Sci Fi, Romance, Self Help and then Twilight and Harry Potter (of course) sections all of their own. I have an entire shelf for Anne McCaffrey because she's my favorite and very prolific too.
I'm reading Angels & Demons now. When they describe the library at the Vatican this is how I envision it … well, not really ~ minus the green bird maybe.
I think it is awesome how you grouped them by color. But seriously…..I so need a good bookcase….and a place to put it…..I have books stacked all over and boxes in the garage.
Have a great day!
I group by topic–ala the Dewey Decimal System, but by color! That's fun!
I use my books as decor as well:-) Yours look fantastic!
I love books allthough I only buy ones I intend to read. I also loves arranging and rearranging them on our bookshelves. I'm now sad though because our new house doesn't have any and I've gotten so used to the built in ones here I wont have anywhere to put them for a while.
Wow!! I'm impressed. First off at how organized you are, and then how awesome the books look. I love to read..but i'm embarrassed to post pics of where my books are. I do have a shelf but they are all nilly willy.
I love the way the books look! I long for a house with a room that is surrounded with shelves on all walls. Someday!
I agree with all above, but I especially love your alteration of Beyonce's "Singles Ladies" (or whatever it's called?) to the Harry Potter version! LOL
