I can’t put time in a bottle, but I can certainly put homecoming in a shoebox.
Yes, that is what my almost fifteen year old daughter is wearing to homecoming. Yes, I put it all in a shoebox. And yes, I want to duct tape the cover on the box and pretend this isn’t happening.
I’ve put two sons through a total of eight years of high school. I already know how to send a boy off to rent a tuxedo for prom. I know how to press a shirt for homecoming and formal, but this is my first daughter. And this is her first dance. And I’m not ready.
I want to go back to party shoes with bows and twirling skirts and headbands. Instead I’ve got zebra stripe ballet shoes and spaghetti straps, rhinestones, bobby pins and hairspray.
I knew this was coming. I knew she’d be ready. What I didn’t know is that I wouldn’t be ready.
1. In your Phriday personal post, include a phavorite photograph (like how I did that?) and a brief description of why it is your phave. Anything at all works for me … one picture, more pictures, a video … even if you participate it another blogger’s Friday event you can double up as long as you link back to me within your post.
2. My advice is that you jump on board now bephore everyone in the nation gets involved and there are no mega-giga-y2k-bytes lepht phor you!
3. Mr. Linky and I have finalized our divorce. Leave a link to your blog within your comment, we’ll find you and visit your place. I pinkie promise.
4. As always, if you have any questions or just want to chat about cats or kids or what I am going to do with the ten spare hours I now have every Phriday, you can contact me at candidcarrie at gmail dot com!
5. Try to remember to link back to me, if you don’t know how or would like some help, I’ll gladly assist you!

YIKES! That is shocking! However, I have been there, my friend…and know your pain. UGH
It's SO hard watching a daughter go from being your "baby" to being a young lady!
Happy Friday!

I can't imagine sending my daughter off to a dance…

Oh gosh tough to see them growing up. I am sure she will be looking beautiful.
Here's mine:http://juggelingactoflife.blogspot.com/2009/10/friday-photo-finish-fiesta-veels-geluk.html
Oh, boy! I teach high school, so I understand the feelings that go along with the first formal dance. It's so frightening. I'm glad my baby is just 2, and I know the next time I blink, she'll be wearing a dress and going to a dance. It makes me bite my nails.
My photo story is about the Type-A Mom conference.
Awww well I love the colour of the dress. I remember Sam's first formal…omg the pictues we took and her prom. We don't call them homecoming..we call them semis.
Hope she has a lovely time
She'll be gorgeous… you'll cry big real tears… and you'll be so proud of her for becoming such a beautiful young woman. A wonderful right of passage. =) (((Hugs))) May you survive these turbulent scary years.
Here's my little one also just continuing to grow and amaze me: (no pun intended)

We have the "Boobs & Butt" rule at our house. It goes something like this. The daughter tries on the dress, whether it's in the store, at a friend's or at home. While said daughter is still incased in said dress, she must do the following:
1. Throw her hands up in the air, sorta like doing the "Shout!" dance. If the dress fits inappropriately, it will either ride up too high or just fall off.
2. Do several deep knee bends. If too much cleavage of any kind (yes, butt cleavage in those dresses that have slits/holes cut out in the back) is revealed, the dress doesn't pass.
3. Sit down at the kitchen table and feign passing the salt and pepper. Cleavage issues of both kind can be detected right away.
4. Get back up again and do that nasty "bumping & grinding" that the kids do these days at school dances. Checking to see if the dress falls off or stretches inappropriately.
5. Spazz around the kitchen, like kids do at dances these days, also to make sure the dress stays anchored.
I know…it's too much to wrap your brain around, especially since you've had boys. But take it from a long-time high school teacher. Maybe you should volunteer to chaperone a dance some time. Or not. Your head might explode. Seriously, though, hope she has fun at Homecoming!

I totally agree with Melissa's Boob's and Butt rule. I have seen waaaaay too many teen girls dressed like street trash. And just when their, and the boys, hormones are flowing at maximum rate.
Been there…done that…bought the prom dress. Enjoy the ride!

I like Melissa's Boobs and Butt rule. I'm going to have to remember that one. I hope I have a few years to go before I have to worry about it, but the worry seems to be coming earlier and earlier . . .
Here's my photo phun phor the week –

What a fun time in her life…. Do it while you can! As adults we rarely get to dress up like that. I hope she has a wonderful time!!!

Oh, I'm sure I'd feel the way you're feeling now in a few more years when my daughter has her first Big Girl dance, except I'm freezing her here at 6. She's mature enough to not have major meltdowns (much), capable of turning down the attitude and being perfectly delightful company, has lost enough teeth to be cute but not so many that I'm watching my retirement get wired into her jaws at the orthodontist's yet. Yep, 6 and almost 1/2 is the furthest I'm letting her go. Problem solved.
I've got a Phriday Photo Phiesta entry over at my blog this week: http://nobody-but-yourself.blogspot.com/2009/10/phriday-photo-phiesta-doggone-it.html
Happy weekend!
I can't wait to see the outfit ON her!
Been there, done that.
She will look beautiful and happy. And you will be so happy for her.
Hope to see her pictures.
