Isn’t that the most perfect picture in the history of all unstaged Halloween pictures? Seriously, Kevin just parked himself next to that fake foam pumpkin this afternoon.
Have you met Kevin?
Three years ago this week I hauled a cat in from our woods. Kevin is a black domestic short hair cat with Halloween green eyes and the shiniest of shiny black hair. He started out as a scrawny shabby sneaky thing living in our woods and it took about six weeks before he got brave enough to come to our porch. I caught him with sardines and a Have-A-Heart trap on my daughter’s twelfth birthday, thinking I would clean him up and find his owner. I gave him a bath and blew him dry, pulling out thirty some fleas and six deer ticks along the way.
A trip to the vet two days later showed no micro-chip, the blood panel and physical exam indicated he was quite healthy, still in-tact, and by the tarter on his teeth he was maybe just a year old.
I called all the vet clinics and shelters in our county to see if anyone reported this guy as MIA. No one had seen/heard/wanted this guy. Two weeks later, it was off with his nuts and in with the micro-chip and we now had our first pet cat.
I carefully choose all my pets’ names because I have to use those names for a very long time, therefore I want names that I am comfortable saying. While searching for the perfect cat name I was trying to think of another sleek black male who was very entertaining. Our black domestic short hair cat is now named Kevin, like Kevin Eubanks from Jay Leno’s Tonight Show band.
Our Kevin even has his own theme song, sung to the tune of Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie …
Oh Kevin
When you meow like that
You make me wish I was a cat
Oh Kevin
Oh Kevin
Kevin was seven cats ago. Donna, Roger, Celene, Dennis the Minus, Mango, and T.L., and Brian. I’ve done my very best to save the world one cat’s butt at a time.
I need to stop rescuing cats, it is someone else can take my place. In the mean time, tell me what you’ve got going on at your blog!
1. In your Phriday personal post, include a phavorite photograph (like how I did that?) and a brief description of why it is your phave. Anything at all works for me … one picture, more pictures, a video … even if you participate it another blogger’s Friday event you can double up as long as you link back to me within your post.
2. My advice is that you jump on board now bephore everyone in the nation gets involved and there are no mega-giga-y2k-bytes lepht phor you!
3. Mr. Linky and I have finalized our divorce. Leave a link to your blog within your comment, we’ll find you and visit your place. I pinkie promise.
4. As always, if you have any questions or just want to chat about cats or kids or what I am going to do with the ten spare hours I now have every Phriday, you can contact me at candidcarrie at gmail dot com!
5. Try to remember to link back to me, if you don’t know how or would like some help, I’ll gladly assist you!
Let the Phestivities begin!

I'm first?!? Woah! I don't think I've ever been first before.
I love black cats! All of the black cats I've had have come to untimely ends, so I've given up on them, but I still love them. I think they are totally beautiful.
My story is about my daughter's hospital gown.

Ah, Carrie– you always know how to woo my heart: with one of your adorable animals. (My cat is "helping" me right now by sitting almost on top of the keyboard. She's nice like that.) How cute that you have a song. And my cats have always been named after people: Frank Sinatra (cuz of the Siamese's big blue eyes), Al Pacino (cuz he had an edge, but was a big ol' softie, too), Zoey (cuz she was just wacky), Tony (he came with that name) and now Chloe (because she is the ultimate princess and snob). Now that I've bored you….
Here's my Friday Fun: at yet another museum! (Don't worry, this one isn't as boring as the last!)

OHHH Kevin reminds me of a black cat we used to have named Merlin! He was the sweetest cat that I miss so much. :0( There was a small sink-hole in our driveway that he would squat over to 'do his business'… too funny. Thanks for the great back-history and awesome photo. He's a gorgeous kitty.
